Dioxin & PCB Analysis in Soil, Sediment and Water


The MSSL Millbrook laboratory incorporates the most advanced and well-equipped dioxin analysis facility in the UK. A total of 4 High Resolution GCMS instruments gives a large capacity for this analysis. Up to 120 samples can be tested in one day enabling the laboratory to handle peaks of high demand. This can often occur during major contamination incidents or extensive site investigations. The instruments include 2 dual acquisition Thermo-DFS units which facilitate high throughput and extremely low sensitivity.

In the Millbrook laboratory soil, sediment or water samples are analysed using the latest techniques. The first stage in the analysis process utilises solvent extraction, either by soxhlet or automated extractor.

The extracted samples are then subjected to a chromatographic clean-up and then analysed by High Resolution Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry.

The analysis suites offered include Dioxins and Furans to enable calculation of the International Toxic Equivalent Value (I-TEQ); the WHO-12 suite of Dioxin-like PCBs and EC-7 PCB suite. All of the compounds can be quantified to extremely low limits of detection.
