Fluorine is one of the most abundant elements in the environment and may be found in feed materials and drinking water in its ionic form, fluoride, which animals are exposed to and thus it enters the food chain.

Fluoride in food has long been recognized as a potential source of adverse health effects including dental fluorosis, bone and joint defects, gastrointestinal disturbances, and muscular-neurological disorders.

Limits on maximum permitted levels of Fluoride have been in use since 2002 for a range of animal feeding stuffs, grains & seeds, minerals, compound feed and associated ingredients.
