Mepiquat & Chlormequat
Chlormequat and Mepiquat are growth regulators, they prevent excessive foliation and stimulate budding. As a consequence plants have more fruits and there is less need for trimmings. These compounds are acute toxic pesticides, and the use of them is now only allowed on grains.
These residues are persistent and can still be found years after treatment has stopped, still influencing foliation and budding of crops.
Limits on maximum permitted levels of Mepiquat & Chlormequat have been in use since 2005 for a range of food and feed ingredients including; Fresh produce, grains & seeds, dried fruits, compound feed and associated ingredients.
